PHOTOS: First wave of destruction from Hurricane Florence comes into focus as floods menace inland areas

Coastal communities in the Carolinas woke up this morning to vicious conditions outside — if they slept at all — as Hurricane Florence made landfall at Wrightsville Beach, near Wilmington, shortly after 7 a.m. While the storm continues its slow march inland, it will be difficult to determine the full extent of the devastation, early photos from the show widespread damage.
